What is ZE4?
Zingerman’s Events on Fourth is a unique venue available for private events, meetings, and training sessions that is operated exclusively by Zingerman’s Catering and Zingerman’s Delicatessen. It’s located in the Historic Kerrytown district of Downtown Ann Arbor. It’s beautifully decorated, with lots of exposed brick, wood floors, & high ceilings, and elegant functional lighting.

What type of events work well in the space?
We’ve had many different types of events here- from birthday parties (all ages from 6-60), rehearsal dinners, small intimate wedding celebrations, corporate training sessions, tailgate parties & more. The entryway of the ZE4 space leads you into the bar area and just beyond that is the main dining room. The bar can be used in the traditional to serve beer, wine or cocktails to your guests, but it also works well as a welcoming point in which to set out appetizers, as a separate area for participants at a corporate meeting to take a break in while the rest of the session is being held in the larger room, or a place the parents can gather while the kids have their birthday party celebrations in the larger room.

What other amenities are available at ZE4?
We get really excited about planning special events that capture the unique elements you have in mind for your guest. We like to help you create a completely customized setting complete with:

  • A welcome message for your group will be placed on the large chalkboard right next to the bar. If you’d like a more specialized or customized drawing to welcome your guests, we can give you pricing on having something drawn by our in house artists.
  • Cakes from Zingerman’s Bakehouse- we can help coordinate your decorated or customized cake from Zingerman’s Bakehouse.
  • Customized decorations
  • floral arrangements
  • valet parking
  • action food stations for your event
  • How many guests can the space hold?
The main dining room can accommodate up to 60 people for a seated reception. For strolling events with the use of both rooms, we can fit about 80 guests. The bar area can accommodate up to 20 guests for seating if it is not being used as a welcome area or for mingling. The total capacity for the space is 88 people. We can also be in contact with the Kerrytown market about the potential to rent part of the Kerrytown patio space.

    What is the pricing structure?
We have a flat rate to use the space, which is $200 on weekdays or $600 on weekends (Friday evening – Sunday). We also have a $2 per person equipment charge, which covers tables, chairs, house linens, china dishware and glassware. Beyond that, we build your event custom for you! Additional costs depend on your service style and chosen menu. Contact us for a full proposal for your event.

What is the range of prices for most events?
Most events range from about $50 – $120 per person, depending on guest count, service style, bar options and menu selection.

Do I need to rent anything additional to use the space?
All of the basic needs for a standard event (such as glassware, china, flatware, white or black table cloths, etc.) inside the event space are covered in your $2 per person equipment charge. Outdoor events would require the rental of extra equipment as would any special requests that you’d like to add as special touches to your event (such as colored tablecloths, specialty glassware or china, etc.). Any special order or extra charge items will be identified when you are planning your event and will be included as a rental charge on your proposal.

When can I see the space?
Contact us to set up an appointment to see the space and speak with one of our event planners. We’ll talk through the vision of your event and by the time we’re finished, we will have enough information to put together a full proposal. Or, you could visit the space on your own during one of our weekly pop-in bar and restaurant nights!

    What about bar?
We can create a bar package customized to suit your needs, whether you’re interested in just beer and wine or a full bar with mixed drinks. Most bars at our events are billed based on consumption. We will give you an estimate of what we think the bar will cost in our initial proposal. The evening of your event, we will keep track of the bar and touch base with you if it looks like your bar total will surpass our estimate, giving you control over whether we continue to serve. The next day, we will process payment for the bar. This way, you only pay for exactly what your guests drink.

    Are other bar options available?
Yes! We can offer a cash bar, a more limited open bar, bar tickets, etc. Just let us know what you have in mind.

Can we provide our own beverages?
Our liquor license requires that we provide all of the alcoholic beverages at Zingerman’s Events on 4th.

Do we need to have food at our event? Can we provide food from another source?
We do require that food be a part of your order. Zingerman’s Catering is the exclusive caterer in the space.

How do I find out if my date is available?
Call our office at 734-663-3400 and we can check availability for you!

How do I secure a date for my event?
We book the space on a first come, first serve basis. As soon as you get in touch with us, we add your name to that event date in our calendar. If anyone gets in touch about that date before you’ve made your decision, we will be in touch with you to give you the chance to move forward at that time. If you don’t move forward, we will offer that date to the interested party.

    Do you require a deposit?
We do ask for a 10% deposit to hold the date for your event.

What music options do you have?
We have a speaker system where we can play music from a laptop or ipod. You are welcome to create a playlist or we’ll put on our own music, based on the tone you’re looking for. We also have space for a DJ or, in some cases, live music.

    What if there are leftovers?
Our servers will provide to-go containers, neatly package the leftovers, and safely handle and store them until the end of the event, when they are handed over to you or the people of your choosing. In the event that you cannot or do not want to take the leftovers our staff will donate the items we can to Food Gatherers and dispose of the remainder.

Can we provide some of the food from another source?
We do require that the majority of the food be provided by us, in order to use the Zingerman’s Events on 4th space. However, if your aunt wants to bring in her special artichoke heart dip as part of the appetizer selection or your Mom is committed to having donuts from Dutch Girl as a late night snack, we are fine with it. Our only request is that the item or items are clearly marked so guests know which items are from which source (we will provide food signs with our logo on them for any food that we provide).

How do you handle food allergies?
We try to accommodate all culinary restrictions, whether they are restrictions by choice or necessity. Please let us know as soon as possible what the allergy or sensitivity is and we can corroborate on a solution everyone will be pleased with.

Do you serve regional, seasonal, and/or organic food?
YES! We are committed to serving the best food we can find and look hard to find it as close to us as possible. Of course we import specialty foods from around the world but we have also found, especially when it comes to fresh produce and fresh meats, often you don’t need to look farther than your county or state lines. Our beef, pork, and poultry are sourced from vendors that we have long term relationships with and we serve meat that comes from free-range animals whenever possible. Our produce is sourced locally whenever possible as well, and the majority of our local produce comes from farmers we know on a first name basis.

Our preference is to highlight local, seasonal ingredients (ask us about the amazing asparagus we pick in the spring!), and build those into our menus. Some items will never be grown locally, citrus fruits and pineapple for example, but we would be thrilled to build a menu around completely local and seasonal foods for you.

Many of the products we sell are certified organic. There are other items that we sell that are not certified organic but they follow all the sustainable methods of production that renews the resources and produces great tasting products. We can source fully certified organic products at your request.

Can we get food from other Zingerman’s businesses?
YES! If you would like us to cater your event, but just have to have the Memphis Macaroni from Zingerman’s Roadhouse we can accommodate you.

    Do you have liability insurance?
YES! We carry a standard liability policy that covers up to $1,000,000 in damage to property or physical injury, as well as workers compensation insurance for all of our staff. If you or your selected venue have any specific requirements for insurance coverage for your event we can provide you with a copy of our coverage, and can also work with our insurance company to accommodate your needs.

Can you supply an espresso machine and barista?
YES! Our baristas are rigorously trained and tested before being given this prestigious title. They will bring with them all of the delicious supplies necessary to make you and your guests’ favorite coffee drinks on our professional espresso machine!

How does Zingerman’s give back to the community?
We are committed to leaving a positive mark on our community. We actively work to make our community a better place to live by contributing time, food, money, energy and information.

Do you have eco-friendly disposable service ware?
YES! Utilizing the renewable resource of bamboo, we offer disposable plates that biodegrade in a landfill in as little as six months. We are also open to sourcing custom service ware that is eco-friendly.

    Do you recycle?
YES! We are committed to recycling everything that Ann Arbor will take and will even bring it back to our facility if your venue doesn’t have recycling capacities.

    Are you a kosher caterer?
We can certainly put together menus that are traditional but we do not operate a kosher kitchen. We can, however, outsource meals from a kosher caterer and bring them with us as part of the order if you have a small fraction of guests that require them.

Do you charge a cake cutting fee?
NO! Whether it is a Zingerman’s cake or comes from another bakery, our service staff will cut the cake and set it out on the buffet at no extra charge.
